Andrew made me put this picture on so you could see the size of these steaks...for you meat lovers, they were very good, but crazy big! We went to a churrasqueria (grill) last week, where your choice is pretty much steak or steak. You walk in to a huge grill filled with meat, smoking everywhere, and you order a plate and about 20 minutes later, you get this with french fries and a drink for 45 bs ($5.50). The steaks come from Argentina and have great flavor, but come on...who can eat all that? Andrew and I split it, but you would be surprised at the women chowing down on these, and believe me, they weren´t sharing! North Star to Southern Cross

Too much meat

Jen, Your brother-in-law could eat one of those steaks! mom
Ian said he'd have no problem eating that steak! I'm thinking that's a pretty good price for that AND fries and a drink!
Do most people eat a lot of meat? Or is this more for those with some money? Would $5 be considered expensive for a meal?
Sweet mother, that looks like a good steak. I could totally eat a full one by myself.
What Jen didn´t tell you is that this was one order that we agreed to share and then she started giving away parts of her (read...MY!!)steak...you can see that part of the one she has a knife in is already missing. I was ready to eat both of them. $5 is expensive for a meal here. The big meal is lunch, which you can get for about $2.50...typically includes 3 courses (soup, main dish, and dessert). It is my understanding the most poor people don´t eat much meat, but anyone that can afford to buy prepared meals (either on the street or in a resturant) eat meat. It´s somewhat hard to find a meal without some sort of meat in it...lots of potatoes as well. Someday we will do a post about day to day cost here.
Jordan says yum. When I was in Uruguay last fall for 2 months I ate South American Steaks just about every day. They were so good! Nothing like what you usually get in the states. That steak there would probably go for over $50 to $100 in the states. The beef is grass fed and much more healthy in Argentina and Uruguay. When I got home I was shocked when I got on the scale. I had lost 10 lbs. binging on beef for 2 months! I quickly gained it all back when I went back to eating tofu here in the states.
Ummm that steak actually looks really good. I'll bet I could eat a whole one. I'd at least like to give it a shot. Scott H.
