Oh, yes, he was happy to meet us! Full of energy and a bit of chewed donut! We do our first ¨real¨shift tonight at 4pm for bedtime...I´m sure it will be a breeze...pray for Andrew! Actually, these kids are absolutely amazing...God´s love is shining through them. Let me tell you...they pray better than any kid you´ve met and they can clean a plate of food faster than me. I'm enjoying following along in your travels! Looks like you are in a wonderful situation with some uplifting work ahead. Love you, Lesley
We've been enjoying following your travels and glad you're safely in Bolivia! Can't wait to hear more about the kiddos and how bedtime went! :-)
Love, Kate and boys
I think you are probably very busy lately!! How are los ninos? Is the language getting to be natural for you?
love always,
Esther
This kid was only the start of our troubles. During our first shift, one staff person left and said that her replacement would arrive in a few minutes...she didn't come until an hour later. It wasn't a pretty sight by the time she arrived. The kids (15 of them between the ages of 4 and 11) knew we were new and all alone and took full advantage of the situation. You would be proud of me though, I didn't beat any children and I still told Jen that I loved her at the end of night...despite the fact that she convinced me to live in a city and work with small children as opposed to living in the mountains and working with farmers. The next day we did a 6 hour shift with 15 babies (ages 1 month to 3 years) in a 12' by 12' room. This was actually much easier than the night before...they move slower and don't talk as much. I haven't changed any diapers yet, but I held slobering, smelly babies for a long time. I'm still trying to decide if in the end I will like them (they are pretty cute) or if this will be a life long birth control experience. We have a couple of more 6 hour shifts this week, but this weekend we have two 12 hour shifts (Saturday & Sunday)...Dios me ayuda (God help me). - Andrew
Oh Andrew, what an awesome life experience. By the end of this experience you'll probably want to bring them ALL home with you, at least the little ones that don't talk. I know that feeling, I get it sometimes in my own home. You gotta love 'em!
We love your blog! This is our 3rd attempt to comment, so we'll try "anonymous" this time to see if that'll work . . .
Thanks for keeping us so informed! It looks like you are having quite a time! We'll keep checking and praying.
Lots of love, Karen, Chris, A&M :->
ohh - you are being tested by Fire! It is a good thing babies and kids and really old fogies are mostly cute, otherwise....???? I agree with Sherri though, I'll bet you'll want to take them all ( or at least a few ) home with you. This is good training.
Time has gone by so fast; it is already the end of Feb. and I am just now checking in on the two of you. What amazing things you have done in this time. Sping is starting to come around. I just uncovered my flower pots in the back yard and to my surprise the tulips are coming in! I am happy to report to you Andrew, that I am no longer jobless. I have accepted a position with the Lung Association (in Yak.) 25 hours and I can afford to drive so I think that it is going to work out for now. As soon as I accepted the position CWU call for a phone interview...will be taking it but who knows what will happen. Enough about me - I am going back to look at your pics! I can't wait to hear more about your children "adventures" - Take Care, Michoan
